Re: Project 1

Can't believe that it's so long since I posted here. I haven't lost interest and I have been working on things, but my attention has been thinly spread over several areas, including planning of my next project! I know, I know, I ought to finish Project 1 before even thinking about Project 2... Anywa...

Re: Multi pin connector plugs

Please excuse my ignorance here but I notice that the question is about how much power the little connectors can handle.
Thinking about the cable itself though, if using Sub D connectors, or DIN come to that, do you use an 'off-the-shelf' cable or do those not have enough current carrying capability?

Re: Project 1

At first I thought that what I was intending to build was just ridiculously small. Now I've started, I am finding that I'm constantly having to think about how to do various aspects, work things out, make decisions, and I'm rather glad that I made that choice. Your comments about "small is good...

Re: Soldering (Electrical)

Searching for solder with lead tends to get a load of results that are "lead free" with the search engine obviously picking up on the word "lead". Silly question, but if it doesn't say "lead free" against a product, does that mean that it's got lead in it? I've now foun...

Re: Project 1

Looking forward to seeing this - it's nice when you see something started from scratch. Remember - no need to rush anything. I spend hours watching Youtube videos on how someone else has made a good job of something I want to do. Everard Junction on Youtube has been very inspirational to me - there...

Re: Project 1

I've not been on the forum for a few days, not contributing anyway, but I've not been idle. It's all coming back to me now, how many different aspects there are to this hobby and I'm glad that I have started with a tiny project to get me back into it. Woodwork, electrical, track plans, rolling stock...

Re: Wire

Thanks for the tip Brian.
I'm obviously keen to avoid major pitfalls so I'll be careful.
I also want to avoid minor pitfalls too as putting things down as a "learning experience" could wear a bit thin in the end...
Cheers.

Re: Wire

Thanks for your replies. I do fully agree with supporting the smaller shops as darkscot says. I try to do exactly that whenever I can. Thanks for the link. My project is at the woodwork stage at the moment, but I want to try to buy a few bits and bobs over the next few days so that work does grind t...

Hadn't thought of it like that. Makes sense I suppose!
