Re: C D U or not
FWIW, I followed Brian's advice using Hornby point motors, with Peco switches, etc. All good thus far. Nice and straightforward.

Reversing loops -- advice please!
Firstly, hi all. I haven’t been here for a while, busy plugging away at my layout. I hope that everyone is OK. I wonder if I could pick the collective brains here on the wiring of reversing loops please? I’ve previously taken a look at both the Peco and Hornby return loop set-up, along with a couple...

Re: Are curved points really that bad?
I use one Hornby curved point in my layout and thus far, is has behaved as it should (touch wood), and works well with a point motor. I know that my local model shop owner doesn't like them, but I think, as previously mentioned here, if they are installed correctly, then they should work. If they di...

Re: Quality of Hornby points/turnouts
Thanks for the reply. The Hornby point motors seem to work well enough with my Gaugemaster CDU, but I suppose that it does make sense to use the related manufacturer's motors with their turnouts. The wiring changes are easy enough to accommodate, as are baseboard holes for wiring. I do think that th...

Re: Quality of Hornby points/turnouts
Thanks for the replies. I wasn't aware of the ST240/241 turnouts, I completely missed those! Dammit. I've been too blinkered by the Hornby way of thing. They look like a direct replacement. One further question though. Will they work with Hornby surfaced-mounted R8243 point motors, or would it be be...

Re: OO gauge turntables
Thanks for the replies. I did suspect a DPDT switch, but just couldn't quite visualise the wiring. Where's the best place to buy a DPDT switch with centre off please? The other thing that I was wondering was whether I could construct something using Peco PL* switches. I ask, as I've used these to co...

Re: OO gauge turntables
The Peco turntable is certainly worth considering, but my carpentry skills just aren't up to snuff. It will be the Hornby turntable, for better or worse, once I've constructed a small extension section for my baseboard to accommodate it. One question please. I'm having a mental block. I'll be using ...

Quality of Hornby points/turnouts
Is it just me, with my usual run of personal bad luck, or are Hornby points/turnouts rubbish? I've had no end of grief trying to find working examples of both the R8072 & 73 points recently. The springs seem so weak that they just don't operate correctly, never making a consistent electrical con...

Re: OO gauge turntables
Thanks for all of the replies. I watched a couple of reviews of the Hornby turntable on YouTube (Sam's Trains) and I do wonder how Hornby has the gall to charge as much for their R070 unit, if Sam's Trains reviews are anything to go by. It seems so noisy too. That said, all I need to do is to spin a...
