Re: Point wiring
Majority of electrical work now finished. Decided to use Molex type connectors which can quickly be attached or detached. This allows me to be able to store the baseboard without worrying about damaging any of the point switches. Will probably put a detachable shelf on the corner of the layout to mo...

Re: Fundamental question on track quality
Quick update on progress (or lack of it!) All Peco electric points are now motorised. Virtually all of the 2D scenery is down. Just a few refinements to make here and there. Will be adding more detail as time goes by. Going to do the track ballast at some point too. Buildings have just been hand pla...

Re: Point wiring
Great advice again. Now have 11 of them installed and working well. Once you get the 'knack' of installing them, they go down without too much fuss. Did the Y points and curve install fairly quickly in the end. Some I used a thin piece of card to level out with the points. To join the cables to each...

Hornby Duchess Class - more or less Dead
Hi All Purchased an immaculate looking Hornby Tender driven Duchess of Sutherland model from Ebay as a 'spares or repair'. Item is exactly as described (and was extremely cheap even for a non runner) but I thought it may just need need some basic TLC. Isolated the tender and tested on my bench by pu...

Re: Point wiring
Hi All
What is the situation with 'Y' points? Just a case of lining the motor up as best you can?
Also, can I mount a point motor on the curved side of a peco point? There's a couple of instances where space is a bit tight to mount on the straight section.
Thanks

Re: Point wiring
Hi All Thanks for the responses. As most have suspected, the issue must surely be with alignment. I managed to rule out anything electrical earlier by doing a comprehensive test of 5 point solenoids. All points are brand new and have no issues with the springs either. Used both CDU's, each with very...

Re: Point wiring
Hiya Yes to the previous posting. The green wire is the one I run directly to the CDU. Have installed 2 ( out of 6 bought) peco pl11 points today. One seems to be working fine, the other not quite throwing in one direction. Couple of questions: 1) Just how true aligned do these solenoids have to be ...

Re: Cleaning Axles etc for improved electrical pickup
Any views on Peco Powerlube? I do have a small tube of this stuff. It mentions it can lubricate and help with electrical contact issues.

Cleaning Axles etc for improved electrical pickup
Hi All As part of my servicing of locomotives, I clean as many electrical contacts as possible. My question is this, keeping parts clean versus lubrication. For example some of my diesel/electric non powered axles are a bit grubby after years of use. Cleaning them has definitely improved loco perfor...

Re: Point wiring
Thanks for the info and advice. "Its a funny old thing this electricity". Have heard plenty of tradesmen say that. Model railways are clearly not immune from this phenomenon.
