Re: Lima Class 33 and 47
I bottled out of fitting that new motor for the 47. Saw a reconditioned Lima unit on eBay at a decent price and went for it. Have to say it's very smooth and good at low speeds. Lima were always fairly good runners if not the most authentic but I really like this particular model. Ordered a replacem...

Re: Hornby APT HO scale, Never Opened
I managed to get over £80 for a rather tatty, unboxed, poorly running Hornby OO APT set. Coupling mechanisms partly damaged too. Was the original release without the black stripe on the front of the cab.

Hornby GWR 4-4-0 service
Hi All Giving my Hornby 4-4-0 GWR County of Bedford some TLC. Have greased all the gears, have new tyres on order. Tender runs really quietly and smoothly when you connect test cables to the motor. However the issues are that it runs erratically once connected to the main chassis. The con rods are a...

Re: Fundamental question on track quality
Layout taking shape. Pretty much doing this as my first layout project. Have spent a good while ensuring that the track is well engineered, level, loads of test running etc. Didn't quite get the foam trackbed 100% on the curves but as going to ballast track that won't be a problem. Had a few derailm...

So the Class 33..... https://i.postimg.cc/hXPXCynQ/IMG-20240717-213621.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/ykfRz4vy/IMG-20240717-213213.jpg Stripped the motor down and found one of the gears is damaged. The motor spins extremely well in both directions when tested in isolation. Guess I'll be replacing that the...

Re: Lima Class 33 and 47
Thank you for the above advice. Liking the replacement motor solution. Relatively low cost for an upgrade and guaranteed fix. Gonna replace all the tyres etc as a matter of routine

Lima Class 33 and 47
Hiya Have a large logo 33 and Intercity 47 both by Lima. Both still in very good cosmetic condition and were both once strong runners although that probably going back to the early 90s. Unfortunately both run poorly. The 33 just seems to slip when it runs although the tyres seem ok, the 47 runs at h...

Re: Fundamental advice on train controllers please
Hi all
Just a quick question re peco point motors. My gaugemaster controller has 4x 12v DC and 1x 16v AC outputs.
Am I able to use the peco motors? Appears they require a 12v DC supply to operate. Unless I'm missing something?
Cheers

Re: Fundamental advice on train controllers please
Out of interest what is the general consensus as far as connecting the cabling to the track? I do have plenty of traditional Hornby connectors which I presume do the job okay. Are there any better means? Also, have a lot of copper speaker cable, both light and heavy gauge. Lighter gauge stuff should...

Re: Baseboard for portability
All of the Hornby steel has been binned. Have bought Peco points and already have a load of Peco flexible long lengths. All my curves are now Hornby Nickel Steel (magnet test). Will suck it and see when it comes to portability. If it finds a permanent home then I may even extend it a couple of feet....
