Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

Any thoughts on the double mainline track, or just have 1 Main line?

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

Ok, I think I'm getting closeish. Not going to lock anything else in for now as I'm sure things will change during construction. Also I have hit my limit in SCARM with object count and I'm too tight to pay for the full version. I have cut the layout into chunks for easier viewing, hopefully you can ...

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

Outside track... An out and back garden railway would be fun! BUT keep all power equipment such as controllers in the dry indoors or in the shed. Also, track ideally needs to be as level as one can make it when running outdoors, and soldered wires to aid electrical connectivity are a must. No, sorr...

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

I agree, the layout around the shed on shelves with a lift out section is absolutely perfect, that is exactly the kind of layout I would have in a building which is separated from the home and there's also the potential to add a small marshaling yard on the straight section opposite the doorway whe...

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

Looks good. Just need to ensure one has allowance for expansion and contraction, especially where the lifting section is. The rest of the plan is good as one has the freedom to change things as one buys more track etc. Plenty of scope. Probably easiest if the straight sections are not much wider th...

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

Most current thoughts. Have decided to do a lift up/down bridge at the entrance and slightly reduced the room size to approx 6m x 3m with 600 to 650mm shelves around the sides.

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

Hi guys, I have started an alternative design, just seems to take so long! I'm not particularly happy with it yet but have to start somewhere. This would be if I made a 4m x 3m room. I'm seeing issues for access over the 1500mm deep sections. This design has min 24 inch radius curves. I can only rea...

Re: Trying to decide on a new Layout

Hi Ian I do not know what the Tasmanian climate is but here in soggy Blighty metal sheds are notorious for condensation problems and oven like temperatures in the brief dry period we call summer. Both extremes are not good for a layout. Probably the best way to mitigate both is literally build a ro...
