Re: Flying scotsman derailling

I have now discovered that the drawbar is held onto the tender with a screw but on the loco side the screw head is smaller than the hole in the drawbar so when lifting it off the track it easily can become detached. I wondered if this was normal. The model number is Hornby 3284TTS.

Re: Flying scotsman derailling

Thanks Mike. I do have some st225 and st226 curves. The loco goes round them very smoothly and at good speed too. The wire between the loco and the tender are not in the middle. On the loco the wire is a bit to the right of centre and on the tender it’s an equal distance to the left, so it goes diag...

Flying scotsman derailling

Hi, i’m new to this hobby and have put together a peco set track double loop in OO gauge. There are two points (in series) that allows transfer from one loop to the other. I also bought (from ebay) a DCC fitted flying scotsman loco and carriages. The loco and tender are connected by a metal rod and ...

Re: Track options

" you might find Brian Lamberts book "A Newcomers Guide to Model Railways" helpful. You can either buy a hard copy through Amazon (currently from about £10.00) or it is available to read online - it became my "bible" for a while. There is a new edition coming out, but I beli...

Re: Track options

Thanks BB. That book looks good. I'll see if I can get hold of a copy. There seems to be so much information online too that I'm not short of reading material and forums (like this one) are really superb to be able to learn from those more experienced and knowledgeable. So thanks to everyone who has...

Re: Track options

BB, great point about the track/platform levels. I hadn't thought of that. When I was 10yrs old it was all very simple.....dc control, minimal scenary, I was happy just to run a train around a simple loop. Now, aged 40 something, I haven't even started building and there are so many things to consid...

Re: Track options

Footplate1947, very interesting what you said about the folded 8. I haven't really thought about layers like that. Do you know what the maximum gradient that an oo gauge will manage?

Re: Track options

BB, I was planning to use a layer of cork above the plywood everywhere, then have another layer of cork under the tracks. I saw this on a YouTube clip called Everard Junction and it worked really well. As you say it raises the tracks nicely. As for track, I'm currently thinking peco code 75 bullhead...

Re: Track options

Hi BB, I am planning on building the boards myself as I do a fair bit of DIY so have the tools etc. I aim to use 12mm plywood with batons underneath to support. I was only really thinking of using 1 side of my room to run mainline trains, with the other 3 sides being used for my GNoSR, which I think...
