Re: The Ranger wheel problems

I have just spoken to Hornby. It looks as though this item is an interference fit or press fit. It should not turn too freely. Hopefully I will be able to send the item to them for repair.

Re: The Ranger wheel problems

I have now checked the main driving gear on the central driving wheel and it moves freely so this is the problem. I think I will try and contact Hornby to see if they can help.

Re: The Ranger wheel problems

This is what I think might be happening. I have no idea on how it is attached ( glued, fastened or integral with axle). I wouldn’t have thought it would be just an interference fit as it is the main driver. But you never know. I haven’t dropped the lower casing yet which holds the wheel sets in as I...

Re: The Ranger wheel problems

After the problem I did take the motor out and checked it and it ran well.

Re: The Ranger wheel problems

The motor is located in the loco and the loco has one of those connectors that Hornby have to link the loco’s motor to the tender where the decoder is located so I did not need to touch the motor and it’s wiring.

Re: The Ranger wheel problems

Thanks for the replies. The decoder is located in the tender so the loco had not been touched except to remove the tender and refit.

The Ranger wheel problems

It is sometime since I have posted on the forum but I keep an eye on what is going on. A few months ago I purchased The Ranger. R3558. Ordered sound decoder, speaker and stay alive. All had to be installed in the tender. The tender had to be cut away inside to allow room. Installation was very succe...

Warning

The other day I went into my "engine shed" and noticed a black bubbled patch on my cutting mat. I don't remember spilling anything to cause the mat to bubble. Whilst looking around I noticed that my helping hands was at the back of the mat which is located near a window so I get some natur...

Re: Hornby turntable

Just an update. Managed to get the TT apart. Had to lift a few rails, took my base out from underneath, unscrewed the centre screw and then managed to take the rotating section out. A test on the centre contact strips indicated a discontinuity between one and the incoming rail. Further inspection re...

Re: Hornby turntable

Tried the check on the rails on the TT. The fault must be inside. Checked the continuity of both rails. One was okay. Turned the TT round by 180 set and the other rail was then faulty. So it would seem that the one supplied with one polarity is at fault.
