I had the same problem with my out of warranty handset. Gaugemaster could/would not supply the part which I believe is different in later models. However the 4 pin rotary encoder is hard to obtain locally but is available from AliExpress and was easy to replace. Only difference is it is not indented...

I cleaned my track a couple of years ago by rubbing a 9B graphite stick on the rails. Never had to do it again and have had trouble free running ever since.

You can't use electrofrog slips, diamonds or 3 ways without them being switched.
