DCC encoder

I designed my own DCC encoder controller. It controls loco's 1-9999. You can change CV's and functions. It controls accessories too. Was it easy ? not at all. Had to dig up NMRA spec's and try to interpret them. Some parts werent bad but others took a bit of figuring out. I have coded for 40 years s...

Re: Length of flex

A piece of wire is just a piece of wire ? Actually, no. I did some research for an electronic project which required some long runs of wire. So I bought in various cables to test. I was quite shocked at just how much the different wires varied in resistance per metre. So for a long run you can get q...

I bought a Hornby decoder from them and it didnt work.
They did refund me without any hassle though.
Maybe just unlucky ?

In the end I just bought a loco with DCC fitted.

Re: help with old eyes.

I do a lot of fine scale electronic work.

A pair of 2.5 reading glasses turn the close up blurr into a sharp image for me.
If needed I then use a x20 magnifying glass.

Re: Station start/stop controller.

The section of track at the stop is isolated. When the loco arrives it stops at red signal. After a time set by a volume control the signal turns to green, power is applied and loco moves on. After a few seconds signal goes back to red. I designed the circuit, designed the pcb and wrote the software...

Re: Hantek 6022BE Oscilloscope Software Overview

With digital scopes you have to be careful with bandwidth and sampling rates. A 100 million samples / second scope is only good for 1MHz bandwidth. This is because to see a nice sine wave on the screen takes about 100 samples. If you just want to use one for low frequencies then there are some very ...

Re: Adding sound effects to a layout

I did a station announcement system many years ago.
I cant remember now which IC I used.
It had a record mode and playback mode.
I also play guitar so used my echo effects to enhance the voice.
For a little box it was pretty loud and went down well at shows.
