Thanks for all the replies, and yes the one thing I hadnt done was to swap the cables (white and blue) so done that, and it came to life. School boy error. This is the type of Ringfield, an H38. I have also got your book Brian as well, and recommended to a couple of friends as well. it's very good!

Great many thanks for the replies. I will look into this. It seems to be a good runner, I have tested on track, and a hornby railroad in both directions, seems fine.
