Re: New Z scale layout

The scenery is not going as well as I'd like. I am having lots of problems getting consistent cover for th...

Re: New Z scale layout

Can't believe it's been a year already. Progress has been slow but quite rewarding. Landscaping was finished just before Christmas. I got the track nailed down tonight. Next steps are to wire the points, install a bridge and tunnel portals. Then I can start on the ballast and grass. 20210110_193643....

Re: New Z scale layout

Progress has been slow as I was travelling a lot. Elevated sections completed and wiring hidden. Just waiting for the blue foam to arrive so I can start building up the scenery. Track is temporarily tacked down.

Re: Cleaning heavily tarnished track

Well the vinegar seems to have improved things. I noticed it took some time to work. Probably some sort of chemical reaction. Straight after there was no difference but, after half an hour there was a noticeable improvement. There is till some stuttering and variation in speed. I think it needs seve...

Cleaning heavily tarnished track

My track has been in storage for a number of years and has become quite tarnished. It doesn't look rusty but has a distinctly dull hue to it. A sort of dark brown grey colour. I assume this is the nickel in the rails. I'm having problems getting the locomotive to run. I assume it's dirty track becau...

Re: Gradients

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll set up the gradients as a dry run once the baseboard is done and post some pics. 50mm is 11m or 36ft to Z scale so not much since its supposed to be up a mountain.
