Re: Southern Fiction

Many thanks, chaps for your kind words and sound advice regarding brick papers. Next time I post there will be a bit more colour to the layout.

Re: Southern Fiction

Ok... so its been a while since I was last here, but I have not been idle. Basically I've simplified things - got rid of the 3-in-one idea, and now have a double track 'Mainline' (in reality, it would probably be a branch line with moderate traffic) and a single track branch line which runs on the i...

Re: Second hand track worth it?

From my point of view, situated as I am in Central France, second hand track is definitely worth it. As I have started laying track on my Southern 'three - in - one' layout I have run out of points, and bought some from the local (30 miles away!) model train shop yesterday. 18 quid for a 2nd radius ...

Re: Distance between tracks

Thanks, chaps, for all the comments which have been very helpful. I have also examined photographs and read up on it a bit. As my layout is a southern one and not GWR I feel I cant keep the 65 mm centre to centre spacing I had started with, so I have re aligned the track with the 50mm centre to cent...

Distance between tracks

Please forgive me if this has been asked before: A quick look through the appropriate fora suggests not. Anyway - quite simply, for a OO layout what would be the ideal distance between track on a double track straight? I know it would be a little wider on curves. I read in an old Railway modeller th...

Re: Short trains rule OK

Here's a picture of the train from Lancaster Green Ayre to Morecambe probably taken in 1966. Even as a four year old I used to wonder why such a big engine was needed for such a short train.

Re: New layout but no name yet

LOVELY scratch built stuff there, Mick. I also like the idea of using drawing pins before the track is permanently placed. Is this a 'standard' technique or your own? In any case I will use it.

Re: Three - in - one

So... baseboards erected and cleared for action. I have a mammoth 18 x 11 foot rectangular circuit. 3 sides are delineated by a 2 ft. 6 inch wide board, whilst one of the long sides has a board 3 ft. 3 inches wide. It will represent part of a parallel world easily allowed for in the Theory of Quantu...
