is electrolysis used I wonder. Pass a high enough current through h2o and it splits into h and o... the hydrogren rises above the oxygen as its lighter... so they can shipon both off and use it. All you need to do is keep the anode and cathode a distance away from each other and collect the bubbles...

It has been done. The N gauge Society Hunslet DS has a built in stay alive and DCC chip, yet on DC the stay alive function is still working.

I'd love one, but modelling in N I doubt they'll ever build it. Heck! We can't even get a J72, and they were in service for 60 years and all over the LNER system pre and post grouping.

Good light is your friend. As an N gauger since 1974, I use a window, room light, angle pose light and torch suitably positioned for the fiddly bits.
