Wiring LED's to main 12 volt supply

#1

Post by Bria46 »

I have just obtained two Beleisha Beacons in 00 gauge for my road scenery part of the layout.
They come with resistors fitted ready for connecting to 'pure' 12 volt supply.
My question is:
The wires that are fitted to the LED Belisha Beacons are very fine.
What is the best solution in connecting these fine wires to the main 12 volt supply (7.02 wire)
Do I attempt to solder the fine wires to the main 7.02 wire or fit then via a terminal block or is there any other obvious solution that I am missing.
Many thanks.

Hi
If the fine wires are long enough to reach the supply pair just wrap them around the feed pair and solder the joints.
If you want to fit the fine wires directly into screw terminal blocks I would fold over in half the fine wire stripped ends onto themselves thereby making the fine wires end twice as thick, this then gives more to grip on in a screw terminal block. Do not over tighten the grub screws holding the fine wires as they could then due to the twisting action fracture! Alternatively, if the fine wires need extending use 7/0.2mm and solder these to the fine wires using different coloured insulation for each so as polarity can be maintained. Slide on small diameter heat shrink tubing to cover each joint or use some narrow strips of insulating tape etc.
