Gout! Again..........

#1

Post by bulleidboy »

Last couple of days have been great - working in the garden etc., - no problems at all. Woke up this morning and can hardly walk. Have consumed plenty of liquid (non-alcoholic), and have been taking daily medication - this problem comes with no warning. I have some other medication which usually works in about a day. It really is a pain - in more ways than one!

Very sorry to hear that BB - it's very painful I believe. Drinking lots of water is, I understand, supposed to help. Hope you feel better soon. R-

I suffer also, although blood tests proved it was not gout, nor pseudo-gout, however taking a daily pill to reduce uric acid upon occassion works well especially when taken along with anti-inflamatory meds to ease any swelling and pain.

I try to pre-empt with the meds as soon as I get the slightest indication, usually stiffness in the big toe joint and a dull ache.

It is already easing and there was very little swelling - I could get my shoes on! I have not had an attack since last June. I have been taking a tablet daily for almost a year which reduces uric acid - as Rob (RAF96) does. I do have some medication which works fairly quickly - this only needs to be taken when there is an attack, and is taken in addition to the daily tablet. Last year I had the attack after the flight back from Florida, and I was aware that I had got dehydrated - so that was probably the cause. It will be gone completely in a couple of days. I'll be off to Florida five weeks today - it can't come soon enough.

Cut back on things like Port, Brandy, game etc. I know they say they are not a cause but don't risk it.

Hope you're fit for Florida. If it flares up again give me a ring and I'll take your place. (got a new passport - may as well use it)

So what is gout pain like BB? I've had occasional soreness and aching in my feet, mostly my right one, for many months off and on. Worse first thing in the morning but as I usually go for a long walk before breakfast it mostly wears off, but a slight dull ache in the toes can remain. I'm assuming that if it were serious I wouldn't be able to walk at all! Don't really want to bother the doc. at least not yet.

Hi Terry ,,,,,,,When I was in the choir in Wales one of our choristers suffered from it , and it was bad pain. Real bad pain........ Not just an ache. He used to get it often. I think he took pills for it but they did not always work well , and sometimes they did. He said.
