Worse first thing in the morning but as I usually go for a long walk before breakfast it mostly wears off, but a slight dull ache in the toes can remain. I'm assuming that if it were serious I wouldn't be able to walk at all! Don't really want to bother the doc. at least not yet.
In my case one foot or other starts to feel stiff and achey, then it swells, gets hot, red and very very painful. Out comes the walking stick. Take the anti-inflamattories (diclofenac - not recommended by WHO) and the swelling goes along with the pain. As with others I first notice it putting shoes on - and immediately start on the meds again.

Thanks RAF. That sounds much worse than my little problem, I feel quite guilty now

Walking with gout is usually not an option. I’ve had it once or twice and it hurts.

The problem I have no problems for ages then it kicks off just as something important to do is imminent.
Maybe it is stress related, as I have not yet linked it to a food or drink intake.

I find it linked to being dehydrated. I had a bad attack some years ago when in Florida - I went into a walk-in doctors surgery, and he confirmed it was gout. He prescribed some tablets and stated I would be able to run a marathon the next day. I didn't run the marathon, but the gout was gone completely. I showed the prescription to my doctor, who said "good heavens I wouldn't give you these"! She told me to flush the tablets down the loo - which I reluctantly did. It cost me about $400 for the cure.

I think I would have kept the tablets BB the medics in this country are very slow on the up take the states are using cures for years before GB decides they are proven and tested. I would have gladly paid to get rid of the pain. I would not have run the Marathon either...

Perhaps they are less worried about what they prescribe because they get paid such a lot for their service in the USA. BB's GP would have had his medical records on hand and have known how different medications would affect him.

I think Brian that this country have alway been slow and behind the times. You only have to look around you on your travels. Must admit I have always thought that our medical people in Britain have been bit slow on the up take. You seem to hear about so many cases where people cant get treatment here so they have to go abroad for operations and things. There must be some truth in it..........John

You can get the same service here if you pay. We have had no problems in our family, the complete opposite. Maybe if we paid £400 for a prescription we’d get the meds BB got. :D

You can always look the meds up on tinterweb and find out all about them.

Might scare you silly though as even aspirin is deadly poison according to some sites.
