My other project.
Re: My other project.
The exhaust is back in and the replacement indicator switch has arrived and been fitted - that side of things is working nicely now.
At least I can now try to get to the bottom of the overdrive issue while the gearbox is exposed.

Your post Steve reminded me that both my brother-in-law and his wife both have fully restored Triumph Spitfire's. To my knowledge they were both restored about five years ago and since then have just sat in the garage.
Re: My other project.
I tend to agree, although I did fit a new gearlever switch at the time it was rebuilt. There is also an hydraulic switch on top of the gearbox to test and of course the solenoid itself. This is the part of being ‘back on the tools’ that I don’t like - fault finding.

We’re getting closer.
Testing the electrics on the overdrive - gearlever manual switch is ok and when I bridge the contacts on the inhibitor switch I get a nice healthy ‘click’ from the solenoid. In fact with a manual switch fitted instead of the inhibitor, the overdrive works perfectly. Not recommended as a permanent fix as switching in the o/d while in reverse will destroy the whole gearbox.
Replacement part now on order.
The good news is that the knock from the UJ has gone now the new one has been put in.

New switch arrived, tested and fitted - the overdrive is finally working properly. Reinstalled all the various interior bits I had to take out and had a quick blast down the country lanes while the sun was shining.

It should do after all the new metal I welded into it seven years ago.

Isn’t it nice to have a car to work on knowing you don’t have to get it done quickly because you need it to go to work tomorrow.
