RAILWAY WEBCAMS

#1

Post by Steve M »

We used to have a thread on the old forum for info and photos about railway webcams.
Now that the camera at Grosmont on the NYMR has been fixed I thought it about time it was reinstated on here.

City of Wells (replaced A4 Union of South Africa) leaving for Pickering this morning. And using a banker during the whole visit.

I visit the Corfe Castle, NYMR, South Devon and IoW web cams every day. Not to mention the Solent ones plus many more.

The one at Swanage struggled to cope with the online traffic while FS was there recently. All hose you mentioned are well worth a look. There’s a good one on the Settle & Carlisle looking towards the Ribblehead viaduct as well.

Many years ago (possibly 50 or so) I used to visit Keighley & Worth Valley Rlwy quite often. On one occasion City of Wells had arrived from Barry, South Wales. It still had a tarpaulin over it and looked in a very sorry state.

A little while later I visited K&WVR again. The improvement was amazing (an understatement). Off course there was still a tremendous amount of work to be done, but I admired the band of volunteers on the work they were doing.

Somewhere in the boxes of old photographs I have a picture (black and white). I shall have to hunt it out.

There are many on Google/Yahoo from trains to planes. Have a look, very interesting what you can find.

The Corfe Castle web cam is one of my first stops when having breakfast - nice to see whether the sun is shining - also the Solent cam WTD mentioned is very good.

Not railway related, but if you like watching life in other parts of the world, this site is pretty good - https://www.portcanaveralwebcam.com/

It is the site WTD referred to (Miami Airport) , but if you click the box in the top left hand corner (Watch another Webcam) there are a number of other sites - the Alaska one is good in the summer, as you can watch seaplanes (main form of transport) taking off and landing - I think they may be DH Otters(?).

Just remembered - there is a railway line running across the bottom of the Miami Airport Cam (when the camera is in the right position!).
