Double check with your local authority they will be able to advise because it effects more than just the postman. There's the electoral register, emergency services and land registry to consider. It will depend on whether there is a house number or if it's all done on name.

He said it is number 24. People add and change house names all the time around here.

Great news for me, trench dug, armoured cable buried, all connected proper and legitimate to my fuse box by my Sons mate who is a fully qualified electrician. Five double sockets and strip light connected and hopefully I can get started proper now. Digging a trench even with a proper trench spade, down to over 500mm is hard work at 63.
But all finished yesterday so it is all systems go. Shame I will not have time today as I am playing Bowls this afternoon.
Thank you to all for your help and advice following my initial post some time back.

Quite right you can lay the cable and do all the donkey work as long as a sparks connects it up and signs it off.
If only there was enough hours in the day..................John
