AIRBRUSHES AND WEATHERING

I am giving some thought to getting myself a decent airbrush and a collection of compatible paints for some light weathering of locos, stock etc.
I have done some online reading and am moving towards an Iwata Neo and Vallejo model air paints and was wondering if anyone had any experience of these and any tips, pros and cons etc.

As with the bigger compressors it will do a better job if it has a air tank, and it pumps more air than the air brush requires......

Thanks Tinker, but the compressor is already sorted as I have three already all with tanks and adjustable pressure from 10 to 120 psi.

Some years ago I picked up a few static models that came 'free' with a magazine - as they are sitting in a drawer, I plan to practice on them.

The first of my parcels arrived this morning - less than 24 hours from Scotland, not bad.

As usual when a complete novice tries something new, I ordered the wrong part.
The air hose fitting doesn’t match my compressor. A quick phone call to Air Tech Equipment in Fort William identifier the adapter that I should have added to my order.
It’s now in the post - free of charge. Can’t argue with that can I.

When looking for suitable paint, I settled on Vallejo Model Air, premixed for airbrushing. I found that they do a ‘railway colours’ set which included a few shades I’d be unlikely to use. I also saw a supplier on eBay that allows you to ‘pick’ the colours - added advantage that they charge about £2 per bottle rather than around £3 for single bottles. I picked the ones I wanted from the railway colours and tyre and dust multipacks and saved about £15.

The plan is coming together.

The adapter I needed arrived this morning and I make no apologies for posting a picture of their card as the service they have given has been exceptional.

I also ordered a paint stand from a new range of workbench storage modules from Hatton’s. Very reasonably priced at £10 - I can see a few more in the range heading in my direction soon.
