Hi,

Not too much to report on Montgreenan this week...……..the town now now has a Chip shop, a Baker's and a Pharmacy, whilst the Country Inn is due to open shortly once the new landlord decides on a name...…...could also be a Post office, Butchers and Newsagent by the end of the week.

Also, the Parcel office have started to install a new fence to prevent the public from wandering on to the track, and a nice new Parcels Lorry was delivered...………….more developments on the horizon, but irritable distractions like work and families etc are slowing the pace of progress.

Contemplating the elevation behind the brick retaining wall and the use of
low relief; very competently done, if I may say. The cathedral really puts
a spell on the scene.

Cathedral - LOL....... it is supposed to be a Parish church but I agree it is a bit overwhelming and dominates the scene, but it is such a lovely model that i just had to have it included...........hopefully once I get some trees and flowers etc to distract the eye it will blend in a bit more.

Really appreciate your and everybodies ongoing positive comments and encouragement - it is just me beavering away by myself in my garage and having never done this before it means a lot to get such great feedback and drives me to do more, thanks - Richard

Hi,

Busy weekend at Montgreenan, as the railway bridge and retaining wall have finally been covered with stone paper etc...….I had bought an ID backscene which I had planned to fit today, and although the reproduction is of great quality, when I rolled it out it just didn't work as I intended with the townscene, and so I will keep it for the other side of the layout whenever I get to that.

Still some buildings to be built to complete the town, as well as pavements, post box, bus stop etc etc...….also want to get some colour introduced thru plants and trees, the first of which have been added to the church yard.

Planning to take the foot of the gas for a wee while and get around to lots of small jobs that I either have not finished or in many case not even started, before tackling the descent off the road bridge and station forecourt - will need to think that one through for a week or two, as I haven't done anything like that before...……...also I am kind of burnt out build card buildings and woodworking etc, so might just pause and play trains for a while.

PS - The first Rail excursion of the summer season is being headed by my nice new Warship, which I think compliments the chocolate and cream coaches I bought some time ago...……..If I was to start all over again, I think I might be tempted to model pre-BR Blue diesels as the Green and Maroon liveries are something special...…...perhaps in time, I can stretch the finances to modelling two era's with their unique fleets ?

Your church is very similar to the one in High Wycombe. It is huge and often referred to as Wycombe Cathedral. The size of the church often reflected the wealth of a town or village. Looks great.

Hi Carl - thanks for the kind comments - the stone paper is in effect embossed wallpaper that can be bought on eBay from a guy based in Greece of all places..... he has a wide selection, but he calls this particular one “Yorkshire Stone” - to be honest I was quite disappointed when the sheets arrived as I didn’t think they looked much like the pictures on e-bay, but decided to give it a go anyway and once it was mounted onto the wooden retaining walls it actually looked surprisingly good and more like what I was aiming for, so I proceeded to do the bridge and all...... really easy to do with a sharp blade and PVA glue, and very forgiving if you get a slight tear etc....... for the tightly folded sections I used Roket Card glue to get an immediate bond on the initial edge, which then allows you to keep subsequent folds nice and tight.
