Colour of Truro's Frames.

#1

Post by footplate1947 »

I have been looking around trying to find out about liveries of the GWR City Class. One in particular is the red frames of Truro. I believe most of its life it had black painted frames but the museum has it painted in red. Back when it was a working loco did it have red frames in the early days and end up with black frames. I must say she looks lovely with red frames but when were they red, if at all. I think all the other City's were black frames all the time except Truro.. Does anybody know...........John.

Hi Brian. Thanks for reply I have been trying to find out how long it was red and if any of the others were as well. Far as I can tell from photos I have found most were black framed so was wondering what period the red pained frames were. I suspect it was in the early days as you said originally. You are probably right on the nail Brain.

As far as I know, the early GWR locos did have a period when they were painting the frames red, but then went to black. I dont think the red framed idea lasted long.
