Dave Jones is/was a designer/manufacturer/distributor of a few very nice locos and wagons. He had a few interesting projects in the pipeline as well.
Not sure they sold that well though, at one of the big shows last year quite a few retailers were selling off the J94 for as little as £50.

They are really nice and run beautifully.

I have a couple as well - he worked in conjunction with Kernows on some models (Beattie Well Tank and Class 02 tank) - as WTD says "they are very good". I think the reason a lot has been said on the "other" forum, some of his models still to be produced were "crowdfunded" - and people want to know whether they will get their money back - no need to go into the "why's and wherefore's" about that as it has been discussed in vast detail on the other forum.

If the comments elsewhere and the company’s own comments are to be believed, then they appear to have been the victim of some dubious and underhand practices by third parties. Also allegations of theft of their intellectual property ie designs.

Had an Austerity briefly - whilst it ran slowly it also made far more noise than any other loco I have ever had. It was the strange gear drive with floppy coupling rods that he used that put me off his models - still have an O2 but that does look weird as it trundles along the track with the coupling rods never perfectly horizontal. Might work okay in N gauge but pretty much a backwards step in OO IMO. Noticeably a new loco that probably will not see the light of day was to have a normal mechanism so he probably realised the error in his ways and possible explains the glut of unsold locos that retailers are trying to clear at low prices.

Can't imagine any other manufacturer would want to copy his designs and his attempt at copyrighting his designs is questionable as a 14xx, for example, is a design of Collett and anyone is perfectly entitled to make a model of that loco - at least hopefully no one else will make one with driving wheels that are too big and a weird depressed numberplate.
