D-Day Dakota fly-past
D-Day Dakota fly-past
I am currently sitting by the side of the road overlooking the Thames Estuary opposite Southend.
Hoping to catch a glimpse of the Dakotas on their way to Normandy.
Take off delayed by two hours.

Re: D-Day Dakota fly-past
Can someone please tell me why all this is happening today? As far as I am aware June 6th 1944 was the actual day of the Normandy invasion (delayed by 24 hours because of bad weather in the channel). Today is the 5th.
Most people are shocked when they find out how bad I am as an electrician

The aircraft departed on the 5th. My dad said they flew over well before he set sail from Newhaven and his landing craft were some of the first on Sword and he took troops in over 30 times.

Bit too far from Colchester for me - but got them on Flight Radar. Thanks WTD. R-

I was tracking them on Flight Radar as well!
And I make no apologies for posting all these pictures this afternoon - a tremendous sight.
