Books for me every time. Can’t lend somebody a Kindle book.

WTD, yes you can, we transfer/ move books about. I can let my son read ours. Dont know if that is universal. but our kindles, are on Whispernet, with a massive purchase, or lending/ read, facility. I think your children could link up, not that they would want to, probably, and Heather, far prefers an actual book. However, she can happily download/ read, without buying, if need be.

Not novels, I never read them, reference books. You can only transfer a book if the other person has a Kindle or similar. All the people need that I lend books to are eyes.


I read somewhere that one of the suppliers of electronic books is pulling the plug. It was saying that people who use it might lose their books. Can’t recall who it is.

Edit: just checked it and it is Microsoft eBooks that is packing up.

Very true. Heather keenly misses borrowing quilting , and other hobby books. Price we pay to enjoy 40 degrees I suppose. Joking apart, initially, in 2003, postage was at sensible levels, so stuff could come and go. Now it costs a fortune just to post or receive birthday cards. Little wonder my brother uses Jacqui Lawson.

I started out in Kindle with 20,000 books on a £10 CD. Never payed for an e-book since as you can always find a promo freebie even for new releases from famous authors - often only valid for 24 hours access.

I have garnered full sets of all my favourite authors on this basis. I can get Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books before the shops get them.

I do enjoy a paper book though and as Brian says e-books are useless for reference purposes. We proved this in the early days of digital aircraft manuals, where you often need to flip between sections of several books. An example of a typical desktop work-scenario was cross referencing from the Master Servicing List to the Aircraft Maintenance Manual and the Component Overhaul Manual You cannot do that in an e-book scenario.
