The book by Iain Rice - "Mainlines in Modest Spaces " has a few layouts that fit that space with a couple of minor changes.

Good point, I've not seen that Rice book. I've read his other book on layouts
for small spaces, promoting prototypical fashion, until the pages nearly fell
out. The man was a genius.

Like Chops said, a folded figure of eight gives you double the length of run. My old layout (H0 gauge) had about the same space as you have and I was able to avoid a flat crossing and keep the ruling gradient to 1 in 35 and the ruling radius to 3 ft. Just a thought.

Cheers,
Artur
