Did you know that..........
https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornw ... nt-3128014
===============
Police carried out an operation on the Torpoint Ferry yesterday morning.
Several drivers were given “words of advice” and four drivers were reported for offences.
Officers say they are reminding motorists that both the ferry and the lanes leading to and from it are considered highways.
Therefore, the usual traffic laws apply – so you’re not allowed to use your mobile phone and you must wear a seatbelt.
=====================
Why do we need 20000 new / extra officers?

What! , On a chain driven ferry across a River Estuary. So getting your car on the boat leaves you with a charge of obstructing the highway to emergency vehicles.Walkingthedog wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 10:26 pm To stop muppets driving while using their phones I guess.

Calm down you’ll burst something.
Perhaps lots of drivers were driving off the ferry without seat belts and still on their phones. Who knows. Anything that stops driver using hand held phones is OK by me.
My son his partner and two children were a a second away from being wiped out by a van driver who decided that entering a roundabout was a good time to ring a betting shop to place a bet. The occupants of the car the idiot hit weren’t so lucky.

Though I agree entitrly with you regarding a moving traffic offence WTD thats hardly the same as sitting on a car ferry. What happened to common sense! A large reminder sign at the point of leaving the ferry would be more appropriate IMHO

Yes you are right but a sign should not be necessary.
I agree that better use of the police should be made but perhaps there had been a lot of problems with idiot drivers so they decided to have a purge. Didn’t harm anybody did it.

And it’s very ‘headline grabbing’ and sends out the message (at very little expense) that seatbelt and phone laws apply anywhere that is designated as the public highway.
I agree that on face value it appears to be a petty action the police but when you look beyond that.....

Might be worth a challenge. I cannot find a definition of a highway that inlcudes a ferry. R-
Young at heart. Slightly older in other parts.
