they get just as grumpy at Hawkshead ferry. Anything that stops people using mobiles is fine by me. I detest the things. When you fly, 200 people tell their relations they have just taken off, and even more tell them, they have just landed. You cant catch a train without listening to multiple phone calls. Call me grumpy, but i think these phones should be for emergency use only. We have one each, in our bags, never turned on, purely for emergency use.

Not at all Brian, like I said, just my opinion. If it is the law then surely a quiet word would have been suffice as I don't believe many people would have been aware of it (Who on here knew about it?). I have just consulted my copy of the Highway Code and there is NO reference to the use of Ferries.

As a long term member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, there is no bigger believer in the law regarding the use of mobile phones when driving than myself and would gladly jail anyone caught even on a first offence

Imagine the numbers they would catch at Dover or Portsmouth!

The only answer to this interpretation of 'highway' is to get out of the car, with the keys! Then you could still be done for something, I'm sure.

Hopefully this 'crackdown' is in response to a complaint (probably the ferry company), if not then it is over policing on private land, even if it is legally a designated highway.

What again! Surely the Leader of the council should resign over this scandal. I demand nothing less.

I think their referring to the lanes going on and off rather than the ferry itself. Cars sit and wait in lanes, but it does seem a bit OTT. No doubt they will start this at Dover and the Tunnel next

Have to say though Donald Trump was tweeting about Mrs Jones at No 42. Thinks it's shameful
