Hi,
My N gauge layout isn't all that long so the station platform isn't either. I don't want a layout that is all station, but ideally, it would be nice for the station to be long enough to cater for realistic train lengths.
I'm going to have a plate girder road bridge exiting the layout going over the line at the station end of the layout. Originally I was going to have the platform stop before the bridge (which would leave the platforms with a length of 3 mk1 coaches).
I've had the idea to continue the platform under the road bridge so I can pretend the real platform is longer and goes off the layout. What do people think of this idea? I've never seen it before in reality, but then I haven't seen all that many stations.
Do people think this would be very unprototypical, how realistic might this be?
My layout is supposed to be on a double track mainline in the late 50s to 60s in a fairly rural setting.
Here's the part of the layout currently.
If I do have platform under the bridge I will bring the bridge forward and towards the station and hide more of the sharp curve.
Here is the nearest thing I can find relating to what I'm talking about. This is Hucknall station, but I don't think the platform under the bridge has ever been used for passengers.
Thanks
Question: Does it make sense if I have platform under a road bridge?

Hi there Randy, Berwick-upon-Tweed still has 2 platforms in use under road bridge and I'm sure must be many more.

Thanks Ted, that’s a useful reference!
Come to think of it now, I’ve just realised Beeston station has platform under bridge at the very end of the platform.
If anyone else knows any places like this, let me know.

Burton On Trent used to have an Island platform under the Station St road bridge.

Re: Question: Does it make sense if I have platform under a road bridge?
My own layout which is loosely based on Gillingham in Kent has a road bridge and the station building over the track with a footbridge leading down to two platforms underneath. That way a long train looks like it goes further under the bridge.
Bridges over platforms are quite common.
A good example is at Farringdon on Thameslink.
