Leaves on the line

Post by Walkingthedog »

In The Times this morning is an article about a new innovation to be used by railways to prevent slipping on the track. Wait for it................they are going to do trials where they spray sand on the rails. Wow what a fantastic idea, why hasn’t it been thought of before?

Oh it has. Couldn’t make it up could you. :?: ;)

I wonder how much they paid a consultancy to come up with that.

What I didn’t mention is that sand boxes will be fitted to locos and the sand will run down pipes onto the rails in front of the drive wheels. Wish I’d thought of that.

Consultant - someone you pay a fortune to tell you either what you already know or what you just need confirming. Then when it goes belly up you can blame them instead of you getting it in the neck.

I should try that as a line of work. I get blamed anyway, so might as well get paid for it.

When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought this was a trip down memory lane to the land of Reggie Perrin...... I loved his excuses for always being late at work, like “leaves on the line at Golders Green” and “Frozen points at Clapham Junction”........ showing my age now I suspect, but still classic lines !

Hi WTD

I should hang on to that copy of The Times. It sounds as thought it could be a first edition and worth a couple of bob

You could be right PP. When I read the article I thought it was a reprint from 1886.

It even made the national news on the tv last night, they have invented a machine that cleans the track with high pressure cleaner and then puts a gel which include sand on the track. I can’t imagine where they got that idea from.

This is different Roger, this is sand boxes fixed to every loco squirting sand under the drive wheels. The machine you mentioned has been in use for years as well. Still I suppose it makes a change from B——t.
