Making DMS for class117 by cut and shut

#1

Post by Tallpaul70 »

Hi All,

Apologies if this topic has been done to death in times past but I cant find any appropriate links!

I am looking to modernize a couple of 00 gauge Lime Class 117s by converting the unpowered DMBS to a DMS.
I seem to recollect that someone used to do a kit for this?

Has anyone experience of doing this?
Even better, is there any brave soul out there who would be willing to do this work for me?

Any information gratefully received.

Many thanks
Paul

I did this many years ago, and the train was passed to my grandson about five years back, so I cannot now provide a photograph. I did it in blue & grey.

It isn't that difficult provided you cut the bodies up carefully getting the cuts vertical (I used a razor saw) .

The hardest part is making sure you have enough bits. I believe had to use three DMBS cars to make one DMS because there isn't quite enough plain windows. I think a sacrificial centre trailer car might have made it easier, but I couldn't find one at the time.

You are aware that Bachmann propose to issue one of their own, although when is a very good question.
