eBay - bad/good service

Post by Steve M »

For once this is not a moan about eBay, rather a tip that may help if deals go wrong.

When I changed my car I invested in a combined dash cam and reversing camera that displays in the rear view mirror - didn’t fancy paying nearly £150 at Halfords so I took a chance on an eBay purchase from China for a mere £38

Easy to fit, and worked really well until the recent heavy rain when the waterproof camera proved to be anything but.

I contacted the seller, who offered a 10% refund. I refused as a replacement camera was going to cost more (assuming I could find one). A few more messages, most of which were ignored, and the offer increased to 20%. By now I’m a bit peed off by the sellers attitude so I requested a full refund- ignored.

I knew I was outside the eBay seller protection scheme but I phoned them anyway and they advised me to pursue a claim via PayPal who also offer a protection scheme - the difference being that the time limit is six months.

And guess what.....this morning I got a full refund of £38. And hopefully the replacement camera that is on its way will prove to be more robust.

Thanks for the tip, didn't know that about Paypal.

Neither did I until the other day. :D
Better still, the replacement camera arrived later today, fitted and working and it only cost £7 so I reckon I’m up £31 on the deal.
Probably won’t affect the Chinese economy though.
