Railway programs

I moved house and the existing reception on Freeview was flaky, due to passing traffic fudging the picture, so I asked Talk-Talk, my internet provider, about their ‘super’ TV package. It took about an hour wrangling before the guy admitted it still used my existing aerial and I would not be any better off picture wise but definitely worse off pocket wise, so I declined.

I now have a Fire-stick 4K, an old Sky dish feeding into a Freesat (Manhattan SX) box and Freeview by way of the smart TV. When reception on one plays up I switch to another source. Fire-stick is of more use on trips away, where hotel/B&B TV choice can be poor, than at home.

Now if only I could tidy up the miles of tangled wiring and seemingly dozens of plugs behind the telly....

I have often thought of using my Firestick in hotels, but they often have a 'fair use' clause banning streaming services on their free offering or are expensive on long trips away.

When using your Firestick, have you had many such issues, or have I been unlucky in the hotels I use. I know their wi-fi isn't often good as I always use a laptop on wi-fi in hotels.

Hi IanS. I very rarely use Firestick in hotels, but when I have, I have had no problems. The hotel chain I have used it in is Marriott. (No affiliation. Just a happy user.)

Staying off topic...

The only times I have used the Fire-stick whilst away was in a B&B hotel and a holiday lodge with free WiFi, which was no problem. I also take my MiFi dongley thing with me in case the local WiFi is poor.

I don't know if you can record from a Fire-stick, doesn’t it just use iPlayer or MyHub to time shift old programs for watching later.
