Hi Ian,
I used the same guide but bought the 6 way switch he suggested and am scared to wire it up! If you have used a simple on-off switch, could you please let me know how you wired it?

I have attached a diagram but not sure if it helps much. Much better to follow his first edition video where he used a simple slide switch.

Sorry to be dim Ian, but I am hoping to use a simple on/off switch. Could this go just on the red power supply? Thanks for any help.

Apologies for being many months late with my reply. No excuses, just not been on here much. A simple on-off switch coild go on the red wire. It serves to break the power supply thats all. Electronics experts on here might be able to advise further. Again, sorry for being late. Ian

Pleased with my initial construction, then fell at the final hurdle - just can't get my head round the electrics

Do you really mean a 6 way switch or a switch with 6 connections (tabs)?? If the latter, then simply use one middle tab on the switch and the same sides lower (Or top) tab. This then give On/Off operation.
If the switch is On when you feel it should indicate by its lever position to be Off, move the top or bottom wire to the other end. Or turn the switch around by 180 degrees,
