Turntable and loco shed

#1

Post by Richard »

I’m running out of ideas!
I’m thinking that I need a turntable on my rebuilt layout to occupy a corner to which I’ll relocate the loco depot. So I’ve made a template to indicate where it might go and am thinking about associated track layouts. I’ve been looking at various track plans in magazines etc but am really very unsure about what us appropriate.

I currently have two tender locos, hence the need for a turntable, and about half a dozen tank engines.

Attached is a pic of the location with the current placing of running lines and platform ends. Some ideas about how this might look will be appreciated. I wary about having facing points leading directly into a loco yard as I’m sure that not prototypical.

My turntable is in the corner, but I only have three tracks leading off the turntable for storage. My loco shed is open at both ends, so loco's can enter for maintenance and then proceed through onto the turntable, turned, and then run down a line next to the shed.

My turntable only has one track entering/exiting it.
