Royal Mail

Further to a conversation earlier about Royal Mail, on the TV during the D-Day memorial service an old chap who served on landing craft was telling his story and it was the same as my dads. So I wrote to him last Thursday using the address: His name, D-Day Veteran, Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Royal Mail delivered it to him this morning. Fantastic. They were on ships side by side.

Wow that is fantastic and thanks you for sharing. I have been investigation my Grandfathers WW1 service and had finished it and posted it for armistice day for all Facebook to see and something to be left of the WWW..

Royal Mail and the Post Office as was had a reputation for being able to deliver to the most vague of addresses. I think they had a special department that took great pride in finding folk from the merest of clues on the envelope.

How about this one:-
In the 1940's my uncle played football for England amateurs, and incidentally for Sutton Utd.
England went on tour to Canada.
A fan wrote a letter to "Charlie, king of the amateurs" that's all - he got it, with pride. Memory is a great asset.

When I worked in the Post Office (many moons ago), at every Office there was a very early copy of ‘Bradshaws’. It was invaluable.
