Kestrel kits

#1

Post by classiccollectmodels »

Hi I am building some kestrel kits for an article. I have done the farm house so far, with added detail like curtains and drainpipes.

Does anyone know the history of these and how Guagemaster ended up with them?

Where do Gaugemaster get involved?

Edit: I have now found out they are a Gaugemaster company. Didn’t know that.

Don't know anything about their history but they are very nice kits and easily "bashed". I built several on my previous. N gauge layout and they looked really good.

Kestrel was one of the many smaller concerns that was bought up by larger companies, in this case it is Gaugemaster.
I do not remember when this happened as there were so many other similar buy outs about a decade or so ago and they are still taking place today.
I believe Kestrel kits have been around for a while but I don't know how long.

Forgot to ask, I know Javis used to be the wholesaler for them but who is it now? presumably Gaugemaster?

I would imagine so as Gaugemaster is also a wholesaler? I believe they supply to many smaller model railway shops.
