First post, so hello all.
I have a Heljan Class 16 D8407 BR Green Full yellow ends Limited Edition (750 pcs) only about a year old. Even after running in, it is a very slow runner.
I do not really want to take it apart to investigate, as it is a lovely model, I think. I run it on my layout as a freight train and its very realistic at slow speed, I use a Gaugemaster Q Four Track Cased Controller for power but it is at max for this loco to run. There is no increase in speed whatsoever, just slow. However it does look good trundling around as a HST speeds by so should I leave well enough alone.
Any ideas or thoughts.
Manty thanks, Pat

Re: Heljan Class 16 slow runner
Just thinking aloud to answer.
It could be geared low to begin with. Maybe someone else who has a class 16 can confirm.
Could possibly be a problem. I have known the odd Heljan item to have the wrong cogs fitted to one of its gear trains, but this usually will only effect one of the powered wheels rather then all of them.
Could possibly be a DCC decoder fitted with a limited top speed setting set to limit its top speed.
Does the motor sound like it is running fast? It will be down to gearing. If not then it is likely to be something else.

Budget modelling in 0-16.5...

On looking at the real Cl 16 this has a maximum top speed of 60MPH. Have Heljan geared this model to match that of the real thing? Only another Cl 16 owner can confirm this!

Re: Heljan Class 16 slow runner
I have a Class 17 and it runs at a realistic snails pace.
Nurse, the screens!

Yes maybe it's meant to be, not a 100mph freight train!!!.....never had a Heljan before so I couldn't compare.
I do like it as it is, very realistic speed so not going to meddle.
Many thanks all for the replies.
