TTS Decoders in None DCC Loco's

The DCC operating system has little or no impression on whether a loco will operate well on DCC. Its the decoder that controls motor speed and current. Low motor output current decoders are normally of the "Budget" type and frequently are not able to handle the load placed on them where older motors and gearing are involved. More up market decoders will be able to deal with at least 1.0Amp and often more current which should exceed most older locos needs.

#hardhat_harry~Look at what value setting you have in CV2, CV5 & CV6 for starters. CV2 is the Start voltage applied to the motor at ideally speed step 1. It will normally be set by trail and error, so it adjusted so as the loco just moves when the speed step is at 1. Its value should always be less than that set in CV6. CV6 should be set to approx 1/3 to 1/2 the value set in CV5. Ideally also use 128 speed steps to give the maximum fine control of slow speed.
