Sorry,.guys, but cafes dont close for lunch, they are too busy packed out with workers who cant get home . As for children drinking, most parents here would not dream of giving their children wine. You have to actually live here to be able to talk from strength. Certainly there are downsides. Banks dont open on monday. Bakers dont open on monday . There are no pubs, you cant buy a bowl of soup and shops shut from 12. To 2 . I can put up with these little things, for the quality of life, good quality local grown produce, where we are, no crime, and. Very little traffic. No car tax.

Yes the shops do shut from 12 until 2 and often it’s a baguette shop.

Probably no crime because all the criminals are with the ordinary workers rioting against the president.

It is a beautiful country, love going there.

Serves you right for trying to buy your Baggie on a monday. We were away for our 50th, at a gite, ans went for lunch, at 12.30. There were upwards of 90 people, having lunch. Great Ambiance.. and i had Kidneys, for first time in france. That, followed by Creme Brulee. Perfect.

There you go again John, shooting down all the British preconceptions of all those strange foreign types over the channel.
And to think over here we seem to think that supermarkets and garages open 24 hours, pubs open all hours and banks open on bank holidays is so modern.......and all on minimum wage or zero hour contracts.
Anyone else think that we may just have got it wrong?

No. Nobody has to use 24 hour services. I worked in a 24 hour 365 day environment so why shouldn’t everybody else.

My mum used to complain about shops opening on sundays so I used to say did she think gas and electricity should be turned off as well and no public transport
