I gather all the left over kit bits and every so often I chop them into smaller pieces and glue them on to a rectangle of plastic cut to the same size as a wagon interior. This gets painted rust colour and becomes a load of scrap.

Finished product. Used 2 kits and some reconfigured aspect lights.
Looks a good project for the old Airfix kit which Dapol have reproduced. Well done :D
BUT......
Ahhh .... Green aspects on all signals!!! Disaster awaits :o :o :o

They turn red when I flip the switches. I used the Peco Smart switches to motorize the switches and connected in the lights with them. All works great.

Half complete 4 track Dapol signal gantry made from two kits, any suggestions re size of wire to use for light signals and did anyone run them in a conduit?
I split the walkway and put half one side and half the other so it would not obstruct the signals, plus any bulb changes would be from the back.

Hi
As a former BR Signalling Engineer I haven't seen cables run in conduit up gantries (but that doesn't mean in some places it didn't happen) but have seen cables run together on mesh type cable trays and even tied onto to the gantry iron work. Cables either fed individual signal heads or ran to a test case mounted on or against the handrail of the gantry and a large core multi core cable terminated in the test box which ran up from the apparatus case near by on the ground and then smaller cables running off to each signal head.

For the model consider enamelled copper wire (As used for relay and motor windings etc) or very fine Kynar wrapping style wire, which is also a solid cored wire.. Examples

Thanks Brian
In our company we use Tray, Basket and S/S tube for cables and air lines.
I just wondered what the likes of NR used.

I have a couple of these Dapol gantries but for now the signal lamps are painted which is a bit silly as they all seem to be on together. I will as part of the new layout build have to equip them with leds switched by passing traffic. Another job on the long list of things to do.
