Sorry I missed that train, however I was on the 11 20 Flying Scotsman Service from Alresford to Alton (Meon Loop) and return. Don't know what all the fuss was about but there were at least 40 security guards on all the stations and along the route in places. Still it was a great day out I got some nice video clips and still photos of the locos running on the day.

Security was probably to stop people walking on the line to take photographs. When FS came back from its rebuild there was a great deal of "trespassing" wherever she went, even causing the loco to stop for safety reasons - the FS on the Mid Hants was a ticket only event and sold-out. Even the limited parking at stations I believe was closed to the "viewing" public.

Unfortunately the selfish and perhaps uneducated spectators meant that it was always going to be ‘carnage’. Other FS event organisers have been unprepared and naive so you can’t blame the MHR for taking extra precautions. Seen by many as overkill but to be expected I’m afraid.
Glad I gave it a miss to be honest.

The classic video of Flying Scotsman being overtaken at a level crossing by an HST which totally obscured the steam train was shown on "Have I got News for You" the other night on DAVE channel. One of the perils of lineside photography.

Just waiting for the trackside loonies to ruin the FS visit to MNR in the summer.

The track is fenced but not what you would call secure against a mildly determined trespasser.
