Painting and Weathering Service
Re: Painting and Weathering Service
Cracking job, looks brilliant. Well done.

In the world of car spraying, it is common practice to produce samples or spray outs on thin sheets to lay up against the bodywork to check for colour match.
Ahead of my next project, I thought I’d do something similar with my rail paints. This is a small test batch - each colour sprayed onto a white and a grey primer. The hello demonstrates the importance of the right primer.

The black obviously doesn’t match (as expected) but it does clearly show the difference between a standard black and weathered black.

Quite a pronounced difference. Is it a trick of the light or is the black inside the lining different from the black outside?
Could be my double glazing of course. R-

I hadn’t noticed that before! As the tender is one from one of those ‘free’ static magazine collections, I don’t think authenticity is top of the list. It was a handy prop for me to demonstrate how the spray outs work.
If I am doing a full respray matching isn’t really an issue, but if for example I am repairing damage or covering a cabside prior to renumbering, it’s best to be able to check for a match before applying paint to an actual model.

At the back of the tender where it is flat, cover the lining with your finger and the black looks the same, remove it and it looks different.
Nurse, the screens!

Finished the latest one today - class 40 in BR green. These were absolutely filthy in use so this one edged to the heavier side of medium.

Re: Painting and Weathering Service
When I set up my painting bench, I invested in a number of workstation modules from HobbyZone (via Hatton’s). Having finished the rebuilding of the shed, I figured it was time to tidy up the work area and ditch a couple of homemade paint stands.
Unfortunately most places in the UK seem to be out of stock but I did manage to find the Polish manufacturer’s website and ordered them direct.
5 days delivery, including a weekend and a bank holiday, via UPS - arrived late this afternoon.
So guess what I will be building tomorrow.

Made the last four modules for the painting and modelling bench. It only took an hour to glue all four together.
The only thing missing from the bench is a modelling project - maybe a bit of grime needed on my Crosti 9F.

Looks very neat and tidy Steve. I see there is currently plenty of room in the lower left corner for more paint etc. R-
