I tend to loosely pin the track down as I go. Saves you moving it accidentally. Drawing pins are good for that.

Track screws are as secure as track pins for keeping track in place, but are generally easier and safer to remove should the inevitable happen and you decide to re-route a line or replace a point.

They are available in 500 packs (with a screwdriver of the correct head size) in various lengths.

I’ve just fixed my O gauge track down with Gaugemaster pins. Now I’ve ballasted it I could remove them but won’t. Only trouble with lots of small screws is you can end up with a blister on your hand from the driver. Pins can be easily push in even if it is a long reach and easily removed. Have to be Gaugemaster though, long ish, very sharp and a perfectly flat head, like me.
