Live Frog Fault

#1

Post by GrahamU »

One of my PECO Electrofrog points no longer seems to have a live frog!
I recently removed this point to dismantle my layout for a house move. I carefully relaid the point, tested it and reballasted (and airbrushed) but now find that the check rails are live but the frog rails are not! I am very reluctant to rip up the track without some idea of what might be wrong. Is it likely that the fine wires within the point have broken? It seems odd that there is still power to the check rails.

There are connections underneath that connect blades to wing rails & the frog rails and it seems the frog rails are now not connected. Just have to run a wire from one of the frog rails to one of the blades.

If the check rails are live you have a strange problem because they are never powered.

If you have lost power to the actual Vee rails from the frog to the IRJs, then its reads as thought the frog wire has broken away under the point. You can drill a small 1.0mm dia hole against one to the two Vee rails in between the Vee rails and thread a new wire to the point motors frog switch and then solder the new wire to the outside web area of one the Vee rails - That's inside the Vee of course. ;)
