Hi Jim, when you say “file name” are you putting the whole url?

Put something up and one of us will have a look at what is there. R-

Will somebody that can, in words of one syllable explain how it's done. I put the name of the file (in irfanview) in between the bracketed img thingies)
Jim (another learning curve).
I spent over an hour yesterday trying to load an image. It was so much easier on he old forum.
Most people are shocked when they find out how bad I am as an electrician

Yes, it was easier, but never mind. I am glad that it's all back up again. I felt lost with nothing to read/learn.

What did I do to get an image?

I clicked the envelope with the mountain and sun in it (it says add an image). It then adds two bracketed img thingies that look like this [img][img]. I then put barge boards.jpg between the bracketed thingies. Like this [img]barge boards[jpg]. Ob viously it didn't work :( . I do not use the photo storing sites as their conditions are in their favour too much.

Jim - have a look at this information, you will have to scroll down to get to "Showing Images In Posts" but it might be worth a read. Particularly note that the image you are intending to post must be available on the web. I don't know if Irfanview will do it though, as it looks like that holds your images on your PC. I did check their help page but it goes on a bit and I lost the will. R-

Yes, an online image seems to be required to show an image in our posts. I'll have to think about that awhile. I did go with photobucket quite a few years ago now. An image does save a lot of words though :D .

Mijj, many on here use Flickr for posting BB code for embedding pictures - Select a medium size if you go down that route.
I also use google photos as a free online backup - just tested that and you can copy links to photos on there as well. I don’t think you get the BB code option on there though.

Thanks Brian, that is what I wanted to do.
I needed to see our chimney and see how the barge-boards fitted around it.
The photo (if it shows) indicates how they did it.

both previous examples are for modern roofs

a vicotiran roof would have a small section of slate and therefore barge board outside the chimney to keep the line and provide protection from the weather which is why roofs hang over walls

stolen from the web those two pictures show how it would be finished
