Small industrial layout

Have started a small industrial layout (OO gauge, down at heel engineering works repairing/refurbishing wagons with their own shunter, set in the 50s or could be early 60s). Could anyone suggest a suitable diesel shunter - or have I got the era wrong? Any suggestions/corrections will be gratefully received as always. Am aiming to do a fairly quick build and will post pictures as I go along.

https://buyhornbytrainsets.com/british-railway-eras may help as it lists eras and if you're modelling run down 50's & '60's it would appear you're unlikely to see anything other than steam doing shunting at the end of their working life. Unless someone knows differently!

Era 5 is showing as the introduction of diesel so they're not going to be in a run down industrial setting at the end of their working life, IMHO

08 class locos were built from 1952... so its possible they'd be around then.

as it's a private industrial company I would suggest seeing what industrial shunter's are available such as Heljan Class 05, 07, Janus or Hornby Rustons.

Thank you for your replies everyone. I wanted to run something different to steam. I may move the era forward if there are no appropriate locos or I can always revert back to steam and use some of my present stock.

There doesn't seem to be much choice out there, but one possibility may be the Hornby Ruston 48 DS

If it's a down at heel industrial site, I guess they wouldn't be running anything very new.

If you were to roll your time period on to early 1970s, then maybe an 03 or 04 shunter, purchased second hand from BR may be suitable.

Thanks CL - am going to revert back to steam. Something else you may be able to help me with - I want inset tracks near the shed area so do I cobble or is there another way or would ash etc cover a lot of the sleepers? All answers gratefully received As always. PS Grotty is going to be the watchword.
