Humbrol Enamal
Humbrol Enamal
I was repainting a loco body couple of days ago and hand painted the cylinders with Humbrol Enamal, to cover the old lining which was not required. Black satin. Now 2 days have passed and it is still very soft. You could not touch it with out leaving a finger print.
Is Humbrol Enamal always that slow to dry or have I bought one from a faulty batch?

Possibly not enough stirring - leaves too much oil in the mix and it will take an age to dry properly.
Acrylics are a much better option these days. Also best practice is to remove the old printed lining or it will show as a slightly raised area under the new paint.
My preference is to rub the printing away with a cocktail stick cut to a chisel point with a drop of IPA diluted 50:50 with water.

You need to stir paint for ages and when you have done it enough .............do it some more.

I’ve been using the motorized stirrer on the right for some time - ideal for Humbrol tins. Only recently acquired the shaker on the left, which works well for the dropper bottles. I’ve removed the rather fetching pink label that read ‘nail varnish shaker’.

So what do you use for your nail varnish now?
