Spent a little while earlier today wiring up the first three double yard lights on Montgreenan TMD...…..the lights are from Kytes Lights and the service and product quality seems very good...…….I have ordered 2-off wall mounted lights for above each of the black and yellow striped doors and some single lights for the Depot entrance gate and for the area adjacent to the oil tanks and loading point.

These run on 3v DC, but I fitted the as-supplied resistors to each light in order to run from the same 9v power supply that feeds my slow action point motors...….quite pleased with the results both when lit and un-lit...…...ballasting some sidings tomorrow and a general clean up, and then perhaps I might even get around to running some trains.

PS - These pictures were taken before the lamp posts were glued in position, so they are all hopefully straighter now and will still be so in the morning, fingers crossed.

PPS - Doesn't the light badly expose any bubbles and small marks on the backscene, which are not really apparent under normal light conditions

Your picture of the lighting on the engine shed is just as you would imagine an early winter evening with a little bit of moisture in the cold air as the night draws in with the engines being made ready for the overnight run.

Thanks guys for all the kind comments on the night shots....... I think I will need to get a light fitted to the adjacent signal box as it look poorly now without one...... and then there is the station and the town etc etc...... never ending hobby, but I love it.

Hi,

I have now embarked on the next stage of Montgreenan and today fitted the branch line tunnel mouths and support walls at the end of siding at Portencross.…...the plan is to enclose this area and have on top open fields rising to join and blend with the surrounding backscene. The tunnel mouths are Javis, but from their Connoisseur range which have a dark stone glaze over them - very hard to get and I had to really hunt to find the three sets I reqd to get enough retaining walls etc...…..strangely and to my cost the Std and Connoisseur range share the same basic p/n and one of my earlier purchases was advertised as the Connoisseur range when in fact it was just the basic mould.

Now at the stage where a few days thinking time is required, but in mind I envisage a frame around the surrounding walls and a plyboard cover ( I want this to be removeable to be able to clean the track and recover any derailments etc), on to which I will fit chicken wire, newspaper and plaster etc to get the required profile before adding static grass, trees, shrubbery etc...……..it all comes together in my head - just need to see if I can successfully reproduce it.

……..will update once there is any significant progress.

PS - Backscene's now fitted 80% of the way around the layout and a solution identified for the balance, but that is probably something for next year at this pace.
