Solved that i think with big hole in the middle of the lay out.
BTW how do you attach files I got my Peco 60 small track plans SP13 seems to have all the things a double track , loop and a high level branch Am I being to ambitious,?
If I could show you the track plan can I could ask how would a train get into the coal yard without going up the incline on the LHS without being back to front leading with the tender or the tank, is that correct?
Should there be points s at the end of the coal staithe to run round to the other end of the wagons, but it still leads the train the wrong way round.
Also I have calculated the incline at 1:36 giving a minimum clearance of 80 mm my incline will be 2921 mm long anybody want to check that?
Final question the plan shows a minimum radius of 15 inches ( whatever they are!) 381 mm in new money can you tell me do bigger locomotives have more traction than say a 0-6-0 just thinking the forces up an incline straight are less than when you are moving up a Curved incline?

My choice is to use the off site link "Add image to post" located below left of the main text box.

Minimum overhead clearance recommended for OO is 60mm and for N 30mm but the more room you can get the better! 1 in 30 is the minimum recommended incline and anything greater will always be an advantage, but frequently space is an issue. Note: if a curve in included in the rise then drag is considerably increased and therefore the slope needs to be shallower.
Pulling up a slope will depend on what's behind the loco. On the plan shown, you're only going to be able to run a loco and possible two coaches, three at a pinch, and that should be fine for most locos to pull.

Hi Brian
Most helpful of you . On my autocad I will reduce the rise from 80 mm to 70 mm and see how much that shortens the incline.
Thanks for answering the drag up the incine query.
I assume you might have seen the plan? But would it be prototypical the the loco would drag the coaches into the station then reverse them back down the gradient?
I'm wondering If I could modify the coal Staithe and fit a one road turntable( I will have to research the diameters first.)

Unfortunately no I cant locate my old Peco Small Track Plans book. Ive found the Plans for larger layouts but the smaller on has gone AWOL :o

The only two comments so far with Plan SP13 is the very tight minimum radius curves used and the need to rise very rapidly to get up to the upper level over the top of the lower level. Dont forget access to the lower level under the upper part is essential too. Re curves the drawing states "Minimum 1 ft 3 inch " which is just a little over Setrack radius 1 = 371mm (1ft 2 1/2") and only 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 locos and small wagons etc can easily negotiate this tight curve. It is recommended in OO not to use anything below Radius 2 which is 438mm (1ft 5 1/4" inches) even then this is a tight curve! Remember all radius are taken to the centre line of the track, so around 15mm extra is then needed to the sleeper ends in OO.
Unfortunately, the great and highly regarded Cyril Freezer always produced track plans on the 'backs of fag packets' and never really gave much thought to whether or not that would actually fit or work! :shock:

I agree they are lacking in drawing details.
Thanks for your thoughts on S13.(Especially the radius tip thanks) I thought to use it as a basis to start

My 8'x4' layout will have a slot in the middle about 18" deep and 3' long. So negating the fat tummy leaning over the layout problem.
Am going to plot it full size on lining paper to see how big the radius can be.
I'm still working on the gradiant to give me 80mm clearance under the upper level to get an idea of distance traveled I read somewhere that flexible streamlines track is approx 36' long and 1 length will rise 36mm 2 would rise 72mm ( you get the idea I'm sure) so I'm looking at 2.500mm of travel very approximately.
The upper section might just be a small station or halt with some industrial scenery.
Also using streamline track and points the track centres are closer is that correct?
I note in some of his other plans turntables I would like to squeeze one in if space allows🤔😊
