How things have moved on (NOT). Last week for several hours our Freeview signal was disrupted to a point of zero channels visible due to weather conditions, not uncommon here. Do we live in Outer Mongolia - no, North West Norfolk! Downham Market is "served" by 3 transmitters, N, S and E but is on the border line for all three. When you overlay the coverage of the three maps of these transmitter stations there is a small area of white left in the middle - Downham Market. Luckily we have a satellite dish too so was able to watch something. We also have a dreadful mobile phone coverage - if you are in one of the high street shops and want to make a call you have to go outside to get a signal! Otherwise it's a very nice place to live

We often stay in a rental in Norfolk, what you're saying is applicable to almost all of Norfolk! I used to work for Orange and at the time their coverage in Norfolk was truly dire. The reason* our technical guys gave was that, being so flat there was nowhere high** enough to mount a mast, thus limiting the range of signal.

* For 'reason' read excuse.
** At the time the local churches were much against us using their towers to mount a mast, even though Orange were doing this all over the country, with a discrete mount that was 99% unnoticeable.

I was told that the BBC transmission was received in the USA and Hawaii, but they didn't have satalites back then. That's good going.

When in UK I live on a holiday lodge park in mid Norfolk and one of my ‘hobbies’ is to point to a patch of grass - ‘over there’ directing holiday makers to the only few square feet on site where the mobile signal beams in. Needless to say getting broadband on my 3G MiFi dongle thing is a tad hit and miss.
